Advice for reducing the choking hazards of foods
Children under four years of age are at higher risk of choking of foods due to their poor ability to chew and swallow, and the relatively small size of their throat compared to food sizes.
- Children can choke on foods such as apple, carrot, nuts, popcorn and sweets
- Avoid hard bits of food
- Grate or cook hard fruit or vegetables
